Hi all
I don't know if this is the right place to put up something like this but i need to somehow express my opinion about the new players needs when they decide to join and start playing EvE.
I have seen lots of new players struggling to play and cope up with the increasing demand of the game in skills and the "need to learn skills" for being able to start enjoying this game, that most of us older players do. I have seen many following the steep learning curve some with success and enthusiasm others with not so much, and finally i ve seen lots of new players either quit out of disappointment or start decreasing their game time until they finally get bored because of their lack of skills. I believe we all agree that having new players is important for all of us and of course CCP. So here is my proposal: Create a new SUPER implant. One that ADDS a huge learning potential (something like a +6 attribute modifier) with a limited operating time (say 4-6 months) and make it BOUND to the character so it can not be sold or otherwise transferred and give it as a bonus to the new account for his 1st subscription. I don't know if it will help in increasing the new players enthusiasm for the game but it will certainly increase their morale and will provide them with something that can actually help them rapidly increase much needed skills in shorter time thus allowing them to enjoy EvE more.
Thank you |

Banko Mato wrote:Doing this via an implant is imho a very bad idea, because it would promote the hunting of new player pods to generate tears as soon as they leave their starter systems (which in turn would increase the chance of them leaving due to getting an important early bonus forcefully removed from them by others). If you want to help them, this needs to implemented in a way not interruptible by "the mean crowd".
A bit more complex solution would be to designate a set of important skills as "beginner skills", having a bonus applied to their respective rank when trained by a character under x month on an account not older than y...
But no matter the exact idea, you should probably get the thread moved to F&I ?
I believe they can make this implant like the Genolution pod implant for the said period but in any case my point is not to exactly implement this idea but for CCP to provide the necessary motivation and of course the means for new players to stay in the game rather than get disappointed by the amount of skills they need to slowly train keeping in mind that new skills are added all the time |

Lexi Starshine wrote:You will never have enough SP and you will never catch up with those who started in 2003. No amount of help from CCP will change that. In the end you should be happy with the amount of SP you have, it's still a year's worth more then the guy who will start a year from now. Everyone, even the 2003 guy, had to start at one point and they gained SP a lot slower and harder.
Live with it or quit, same choice for everyone.
Obviously a couple of months intensive training or even 6 months will have no significant impact on the difference in SP between a 2003 character and a new player. This is not about closing the gap. It is also not about increasing the starting SP, no to that either. SP should be earned "the hard way" with time spending and experience (also vital) gained through hours of game play. Also giving a big amount of SP as a starting point has no sense of achievement for the player and it is also unfair for older characters. What i am trying to say is give new players the motivation and a kind of reward both as something they can capitalize on and the sense of a reward for joining.Allow them to be able to start doing in game things faster so they can have more fun earlier in the game. Thats all. |

I have read every post on this thread. After all i had to since i started it. ! thing is quite obvious, in my opinion, that EvE NEEDS new players and having a skillpoint system that discourages or frustrates them doesn't help. I also believe that old players can and should help CCP to take actions in that direction cause besides new players being easy enough targets in pvp they also can be disappointed in pve as well. The question here is not if new implants or in case what kind of mechanics must be used but to make clear that something must be done. There is no way that these guys will ever catch up and that was not my intention at all. However i feel there must be a way to encourage and assist them understand and enjoy the game. |
